Number matching available for Microsoft Authenticator users

Whilst general roll out of the number matching on the Microsoft Authenticator app has started, Microsoft has announced that on 27th of February 2023, the function will become a default.

Microsoft Teams

What does this mean?

To prevent accidental approvals, users can be required by an admin to enter a number displayed on the

sign-in screen, when approving a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) request in the Microsoft Authenticator app.

This is a critical feature that will help to protect against MFA fatigue, which is currently on the rise.

Admins can now selectively choose to enable the following:

  • Application context – Shows users which application they are logging in to
  • Geographic location – Shows users their sign-in location based on the IP address of the device they are trying to access

To use this function once it becomes default in February, make sure you and your team are using the latest version of the app.

If you’d like to speak to a member of the team out rolling out number matching before the 27th of February, please send an email to support@lms.group or call 0330 088 2565.
